What It Takes
NXDOMAIN
Tha Lab
This place. It’s a sacred place. The one we call home for our personal or business endeavors. Wherever it is, however scattered it might be. This is our hallowed ground to start projects, come up with ideas or half-baked plans, or just plain fuck off for a couple hours. It may be in the living room, it may be a dusty garage, a basement, or the kitchen counter.
For this guy, it’s anywhere that takes me to a place that forces me to use my mind and keep my skills sharp or learn something entirely new. The thirst for ideas and knowledge is never ending. It’s important to remember that your mind is a “muscle” and it craves to be worked out. The most satifying says will seem to be the most tiring once the work is completed and you’ve had a chance to sit back and acknowledge exactly what just occurred.
I’m a little be of an oddball when it comes to the things that I do because of my background. I’ve literally been a carpenter my entire life, thanks to my father. I spent years working with him and various members of his little crew throughout this area, and it was one of the most important things that I was fortunate enough to learn from the ground up. Then came computers, the battle that never ceases to challenge me. More on that later. Then, as it happens, cars caught my eye and took over the next decade of my life. This basically means I’m proficient in three seemingly unrelated fields… Basically, I do all my own stunts and understand the how and why we do them.
Here’s the fun part of all of this and why I wanted to share my somewhat unique perspective on things. I could keep this motivational, but I’ll keep it real. Too many people these days are just OK with existing and not putting in the work to make things better for themselves. There are some extenuating circumstances I won’t get into, but if you’re fortunate enough to be reading this, you’re more than capable of bettering yourself and those around you… or at least the ones you might happen to come in contact with because you’re usually pretty busy. I’m thankful to be fortunate, but I think I owe my fortune to those who made my life better and challenged me, even though I might not have seen it at the time. I don’t come from welath and I wasn’t forced to do anything in particular, but I was able to explore and recognize what gave me the spark to keep driving forward. Something as simple as realizing that you’re not going to be able to do everything, but at least giving it a try. Throughout those trials, the endless hours, and the failures, you’ll start to notice that you’re finding the one piece in all of them that you found interesting, then taking that piece and adding it to all of the other pieces to create a beautiful picture of what exactly makes you tick as an individual.
Let’s bring it back to the beginning. Your lab is where you find you. Your lab is you. Do you have what it takes?
